On November 9, 2021, a variant of the new coronavirus B.1.1.529 was detected for the first time from a sample of a South African case. In less than 2 weeks, the mutant strain became the dominant mutant strain of South Africa’s new crown infection cases, and its rapid growth has aroused global attention. On November 26, this mutant strain has been defined by the WHO as the fifth “variant of concern” (VOC), named as the Omicron (Omicron) mutant. At present, the Omicrom variant strain has rapidly spread to 19 countries or regions around the world, and may pose a new round of severe challenges to the global epidemic prevention and control.
The WHO also stated that Omicron has a large number of mutations, some of which are worrying. The WHO also stated that the “Omicron” mutant strain is detected faster than other mutant strains that have caused a surge in infections in the past, indicating that this latest mutant strain may have a growth advantage. Strictly preventing the spread of the mutant strain of the new coronavirus Omicron has become a new target for global epidemic prevention

In addition to having more mutations in the spike protein, the Omicron mutant strain also has multiple mutation sites in the N protein. Since the main target of the new coronavirus antigen detection reagent is the N protein, the mutation of the N protein may affect the new coronavirus antigen. The accuracy of the test kit has an impact.

Compared with Alpha-N protein, Omicron-N protein has a difference of 10 amino acid positions. In order to investigate the detection performance of Omicron-N protein by the covid-19 antibody raw material of Keygen gene, we prepared recombinant Omicron-N protein in the first time , And conducted collaborative verification by Keygen Gene and a number of customers. The results show that the open view gene new crown antibody material has the same detection results for the recombinant Omicron-N protein, Alpha-N protein and Delta-N protein. The open view gene new crown antibody material can ensure the accuracy of the new crown virus antigen kit for the detection of Omicron variants. .
